About Nickolas Kazalas

Nickolas D. Kazalas AIA
Principal

Nickolas Kazalas founded the firm in 2005.  His professional qualifications comprise over two decades, contributing to the development and design management of various projects for city and state agencies, colleges and universities and more recently for the private sector.  As Principal of the firm, he is responsible for leading the design process, as well as overseeing the development and construction of every project.

Prior to founding NDKA, Nickolas Kazalas was an Associate with the firm of Herbert Beckhard Frank Richlan + Associates, which was the successor firm to one of the giants of modernism, Bauhaus Master, Marcel Breuer.  Working closely with the firms founding partners until their untimely passing in 2003, as well as with the firms surviving partner, Nickolas has attained distinct design and detailing sensibilities deeply rooted in the timeless principles of the modernist movement of the early to mid-20th century.  Nickolas is a firm believer that “good architecture does not come from mindless reinvention, but from skillfully expanding on the foundations and core principals laid down by the masters who preceded us”.

Nickolas holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from New York Institute of Technology, in Old Westbury and has served as an adjunct Professor of Architecture and guest juror at his alma mater for a number of years.  He is a registered architect in the state of New York, and a member of the American Institute of Architects.
